Taking Action for International Mother Earth Day: A Commitment Beyond the Shore
On the occasion of International Mother Earth Day, Diana Shipping Services S.A. joined forces with HELMEPA, the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association, to carry out a beach clean-up at Paralia Dimarchiou in Voula.
This initiative comes at a time when the scale of marine pollution continues to grow. Every year, an estimated 300 million tons of plastic are produced globally, while approximately 570,000 tons end up in the Mediterranean Sea. These figures highlight the urgency for collective, consistent action.
Leading by example, a team of 22 volunteers, including employees and their families, came together with a shared purpose: to make a tangible difference. In just a few hours, they removed 2,272 pieces of debris from the coastline, contributing to the protection of a marine environment that sustains both local ecosystems and global maritime activity.
For Diana Shipping Services S.A., initiatives like this are not one-off events. By returning to this “adopted” beach twice a year,we ensure that our environmental efforts are continuous, measurable, and impactful. This long-term approach reflects a broader philosophy: protecting the seas we navigate is not only an operational responsibility, but a commitment to future generations.
Beyond the immediate environmental impact, the initiative also strengthens a culture of awareness and engagement within the organization. Bringing together colleagues and their families fosters a deeper connection to the environment and reinforces the role each individual can play in preserving it.
Preserving the oceans today, for a clearer horizon tomorrow.
